What To Pack For A Trip To Mexico

The summer is winding down and now is the perfect time to travel to Mexico. By this time of year, most of the tourism has slowed down, the weather’s still warm but not scorching, and it’s always nice to have one last hurrah at the end of the summer. If you’ve never been to Mexico, there’s a few things you’re going to need to know before you pack your bags. You can get a lot of answers from a travel agency like Happy Gringo Travel, but you want to be ready for anything and you don’t want to be overloaded with baggage. So knowing your terrain is essential. If you want to make the most of your summer getaway, here are some tips on what to pack for a trip to Mexico.

  1. Copies of your ID. If anything should happen to your driver’s license or passport while you’re abroad, you could be in for a lot of complications. Every tourist destination in the world is rife with pickpockets and you don’t want to be stranded in Mexico without identification. Be sure to make and bring copies of your driver’s license, passport, and even your birth certificate. You’ll want to keep these in the safe of your hotel room, or in one of those thin fanny packs. If these documents get stolen, you will have identity theft to worry about.
  2. Discreet wallet. When you travel, it’s always a good idea to have some kind of a discreet wallet to prevent pickpockets from snagging your money and identification. You can buy a thin, discreet wallet that attaches to a belt, which is worn under your pants. The wallet sit behind the pocket of one of your pant legs.
  3. Proper footwear. Sure there are some great resorts scattered throughout Mexico, but if you really know how to travel, you’re going to want to get off the resort a few times and explore the land. When you travel to Mexico, you should be taking hikes to waterfalls, kayaking, horseback riding – the list is endless. So, you’re going to need proper footwear. Be sure to bring a light pair of tennis shoes or hiking boots and a pair of hiking sandals, in addition to whatever formal shoes you plan to bring.
  4. Water filter. These days there are a lot of water bottles that have filters built into them. You can also buy all kinds of small, travel sized filtration systems online. The truth is, you never know what the tap water is going to be like, and you want to avoid getting sick while on vacation at all costs. Of course, you could just drink bottled water the entire time, but that can get expensive very quickly, and those plastic water bottles are going to probably end up floating in the ocean. And you don’t want to be one of those tourists who travels the world contributing to the pollution of every country.
